Within the assembly of the Paralympic Committee of Serbia, today, the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation donated a modern van adapted for people with disabilities to the Singidunum Crvena Zvezda Club for Basketball Players in Wheelchairs. The van is a gift from the Foundation's long-time donor, philanthropist from the diaspora, Anka Erne. A vehicle with eight folding seats, special doors and a ramp for wheelchairs will significantly facilitate the transport of Paralympic basketball players to tournaments and competitions, and save money in the budget, bearing in mind that until now the Club has been renting transport for these needs.
"For us, this is the most significant donation because it solved one of our biggest problems, which is the transportation of equipment and players. Until now, we spent a lot of money on transportation services, and we had to decline many tournaments we were invited to due to lack of funds. This means more training, more tournaments in much more comfortable transportation, and I believe more people with disabilities will join basketball," said Željko Ćirković, President of the "Singidunum" Club for Basketball Players in Wheelchairs.
The Club Singidunum Crvena Zvezda has been achieving great results for the past 22 years, and together with the Foundation, it has been participating in various activities for years, promoting sportsmanship and the importance of teamwork, especially appealing to young people to get involved in sports as much as possible and to provide adequate support and motivation to achieve their goals.
"The Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation has been supporting the empowerment of people with disabilities as well as their inclusion in society in various spheres for years. We are especially glad that this van from our long-time donor Anka Erne went to the Club Singidunum Crvena Zvezda, as a modest contribution to paving their way to new successes and victories. Thank you also to the Paralympic Committee of Serbia, which recognized the importance of this act, enabling us today to appeal to others, our colleagues and partners, and point out the importance of each individual when it comes to the inclusion of people with disabilities in society and the promotion of sports," said Ana Koeshall, Director of the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation.
For 17 years, the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation has been dedicatedly helping vulnerable categories, including people with disabilities, throughout Serbia through donations and procurement of necessities. So far, with the help of the Ana and Vlada Divac Foundation, more than 750 families across Serbia have been given a roof over their heads, and in addition to humanitarian aid and promotion of philanthropy, the Foundation also successfully runs community support projects as well as projects aimed at the economic empowerment of vulnerable groups and encouraging employment.
