About the project
According to official statistics, 36.2% of the population that lives below the poverty line in Serbia is single parent families. The Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation, pays special attention to single parent families given the extremely poor socio-economic position of this category, which has still not been officially recognized by legislation.
The Foundation is working to economically empower single parents, to financially and psychologically support them but is also advocating their better legal position.
With the financial support of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia within the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) and together with the Jelek Association, the Foundation has implemented the “Strengthening Human Rights and Economic Empowerment of Single Mothers in Serbia” Project, aimed at raising the quality of life of single parent families and strengthening the institutional support and economic empowerment of single mothers and their families. Within this project, 10 grants of 1,000 Euros each were awarded to single mothers to start and develop their own business. They have launched numerous successful small businesses which will improve the quality of life of the families we supported, with lasting effects. The project included five cities in Serbia: Novi Sad, Belgrade, Kragujevac, Niš and Leskovac.
Output
Thanks to the support of a large number of donors, the Foundation has helped 40 single parents to-date through housing construction, the award of grants to start or develop one’s own business and psychological support.
